Can I smoke at Barr Farmhouse?

In accordance with Scottish law, Barr Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast is strictly non-smoking. You are welcome to smoke in the garden to the front where there is a bin for cigarette ends and packets.

Do you provide evening meals?

Currently, we do not provide evening meals but there are a number of places to eat within a ten to fifteen minute drive from our farmhouse.

Is there an extra charge for afternoon tea?

No. We provide it for free on your day of arrival. If you decide not to take tea for any reason there will be no deduction from your rate. We would be pleased to provide afternoon tea with cakes and scones (with jam and cream) on subsequent days during your stay for a charge of Five Pounds per person.

Is there heating in the bedrooms?

The radiators in your bedroom and bathroom are fitted with thermostats, so that you can adjust them accordingly. Unless the weather is particularly cold the heating is switched off during the day. In the summer months we do not usually put the central heating on, so if you require it just let us know.

Do we provide laundry facilities?

Unfortunately, we are not set up in a way that would allow us to provide a laundry service for our guests. There is a good launderette, only 8 to 10 minutes drive from us.

Do we have to leave the house during the day?

If you are staying for only one night then we would expect you to vacate your room around 10.30am the next morning. If you are staying for two or more nights you are free to come and go as you wish. You will receive two keys, one for your own entrance door and the other for your bedroom and we would ask you to remember to return these to us before your departure. If you are with us for several days please kindly vacate your bedroom between the hours of 10.30am and 3.00pm, for room service.

What time do you lock up in the evening?

With your own front door key, you are free to come and go as you wish. If you are arriving back to The Barr late please be respectful of other guests who may be sleeping.

What time is check in and check out?

Normally, we would expect check in time between 3.00pm and 8.00pm. Check out time is around 10.30am on the day of departure.

Do you allow pets?

We are dog people and love them. As we have several dogs ourselves we are unable, at present, to accommodate other pets in the farmhouse overnight. However, if they are well behaved then they are most welcome to come into the drawing room for a few hours in the evening. If you wish to keep your pet in the car overnight we will be pleased to make water available and you may walk your pet in the grounds on a leash. If they are well trained and will come back when called then they are welcome to run wild around our ample gardens. Please kindly clean up after them and place bags in the bin. We are in the process of putting up a comfortable outdoor kennel for the use of guest dogs.

Is there parking?

There is ample parking in the yard and availability for more than six cars (or if you have your boat, caravan or horsebox) by prior arrangement. Please note that vehicles and their contents are left at Barr Farm House entirely at the owner’s risk.

Why do I need to provide my credit / debit card details?

To complete a booking we ask for a debit or credit card number with expiry date and 3 digit security number (The request for your 3 digit security number is part of the pre-authorisation process required by our credit card payment facility. All card information is held in a safe and secure environment and credit card details are appropriately disposed of on your departure). Please note that no money will be taken from your card prior to your arrival. We do, however, ask for five days cancellation notice prior to the midday of your planned arrival date.

What is your cancellation policy?

We respectfully request that you give us as much notice as possible if you intend to cancel your reservation. When we have confirmed your booking, it means that all other enquiries for the night(s) you have booked, will be turned away. Unfortunately, we have to charge you the full room rate if you cancel after midday, five days before your expected arrival date. However, there will be no charge if we manage to re-let your room(s).
